As educators of the Permaculture Design Certification course we need to create a mosaic of learning environments. At Spiral Ridge Permaculture, we are always improving our ability to facilitate learning using several approaches. We have learned that teaching needs to have a holistic approach. That is why we create course sessions that engage the hands, heart and head. Our students are given a learning module that tests them to see if they are kinesthetic, visual or audio learners. We use this information to not only form design teams, we use it to create course modules that will be informative, fun, as well as practical.
This past weekend at our annual winter weekend PDC at The Farm Solar Campus we created base maps for student designs, surveyed a net and pan earthworks system, pruned fruit trees, toured Spiral Ridge homestead, had a World Cafe discussion on food and nutrition, ate delicious organic meals, and had a lot of fun too.
To fully understand how we have designed our courses to be so dynamic one really needs to participate in any of our courses. For now enjoy the pictures.
