Spiral Ridge’s new workshop shed

At the beginning of the month we started a part time project here on Spiral Ridge.  5 apprentices and I framed a workshop space with storage capacity.  The workshop shed will replace our 74 school bus (bye bye) and will be used to build furniture, cabinets and other things for our house.  I designed the frame to be easy to learn from and build.  We first set piers with rebar and strappping for secure connections to the posts.  We then raised the posts, hung the bands, framed the lofts and Carl Evertson came out to give us a very needed hand on the roof.  We are now building a front awning for more outdoor cover to work under.  We are starting on the walls next and then siding.  This building was made out of very local material and designed to have more than 2 manifestations if needed.  We are happy to get this building up because we can now have a space for our storage and our tools.  We can also move the bus off the property.  The bus sits on a future Edible Forest Garden that will be a part of a course with Dave Jacke in 2011.  How fun!

Here are some pictures of the workshop.

Here we are framing the workshop.  This will be a place to build furniture, fix tools, store bamboo and stuff.  Two lofts, an outdoor bay and 12 x 12 floor/bench space with an 8 x 20 foot front awning…. very multifunctional.  Will provide more pictures as we further along
